Ten and Law or Commandment

The Foundation Stones

1 Ki 7:10 "And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits."  In building the temple and the king's house, Solomon had laid the foundation of these buildings with great and costly stones of ten cubits and of eight cubits.  In the scriptures, as we have previously proven, ten is associated with the laws, commandments, and authority of God and eight is associated with the subject of new beginnings.

The Lord told Peter in Matt. 16:17 "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."  The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is founded upon the rock of revealed truth of Jesus Christ.  It is founded upon the person of Jesus Christ, and upon the work of Jesus Christ, and upon the word of Jesus Christ.  In this revealed truth is contained the laws, commandments and authority of God.  Thus the foundation of the church consists of a great stone of ten cubits (Ten = laws, commandments, and authority of God).

The church is also founded upon the work of Jesus Christ.  Part of the work of Jesus Christ included making some New Beginnings for the elect of God.  The elect are brought from a state of being dead in trespasses and sins into a state of spiritual life in Christ Jesus.  They are brought from a state of condemnation before a just and holy God to a state of being justified and made righteous before God.  They are brought from a state of being corrupt by nature and in the resurrection being made incorruptible.  Thus the foundation of the church consists of a great stone of eight cubits (Eight = New Beginnings).

Cherubims of Glory

1 Kings 6:23 "And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high. 24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. 25 And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size. 26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub."  Thus these two cherubims were each ten cubits in height and they both had a wing span of ten cubits.

The cherubims overshadowed the mercy seat and the ark of the covenant.  Two is the bible number associated with witness.  The cherubims were witnesses of the ark of the covenant and of the mercy seat.  The ark of the covenant was a type of the covenant work of Jesus Christ.  It is through the covenant work of Jesus Christ that God manifests his mercy to the elect children of God.  Today we have two faithful witnesses of the covenant work of Jesus Christ and of the mercy of God towards his elect children.  These two witnesses are the Old Testament and the New Testament.  The testimony of these two witnesses spans from before the foundation of the world to an eternity future that will be manifest in the resurrection of the dead.  It is through the laws, commandments and authority of God that we have these two witnesses and the testimony of these two witnesses is of the laws, commandments, and authority of God.  The witnesses come from God and are as high as the laws, commandments and authority of God (thus ten cubits high).

Molten Sea of Ten Cubits

1 Ki 7:23 "And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about."  The molten sea is typical of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  That which is molten may be poured out.  This is typical of the gospel as it is poured out unto the children of God.

Those who preach the gospel do so under the commandment and authority of God: Matt. 28:18 "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Likewise, what they preach is also under the commandment and authority of God: Acts 10:33 "Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God."

Furthermore, they preach the commandments, laws, and authority of God giving testimony of the grace of God that has delivered us from our sins and which doth deliver us also in this timely world in which we live.

Dragon and Beast, False Authority

In the book of Revelation we read of a seven head ten horn dragon which is also called Satan, that old serpent, and the devil: Rev 12:3 "And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads."  Since the number ten is associated with the subject of law, commandment, and authority and the word, horn, is associated with authority we see that the dragon possesses authority and gives commandments and laws.  The problem with the dragon's authority is that it is a false authority that is not derived from God, but is the result of rebellion and the dragon's own might.  This authority is in direct conflict with the authority of God.

This conflict in authority was manifest in the Garden of Eden.  God had told the man that he was not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for in the day he ate thereof, he would surely die.  In conflict with this authority the serpent told the woman, Gen. 3:4 "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."  When Adam and Eve followed the serpents authority they both sinned and died.  We sin when we follow the dragon's authority.

Furthermore, the dragon caused a beast to rise up out of the sea: Rev. 13:1 "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."  Notice that the power, seat, and great authority of the beast was given to it by the dragon.  The beast was in the dragon's image and had been given its authority by the dragon.  This is a false authority.

As children of God, we should recognize that the authority of the dragon and the authority of the beast is a false authority and is in opposition to the well-being of God's children.  We should stand in opposition of this false authority and false laws and commandments that come forth from the dragon and the beast.  We derive our true authority from God and we are under the laws and commandments of God and not under the laws and commandments of the dragon or the beast.
