Six and 666

Six – Man and His Work

In the scriptures the number six is often associated with man and his work. Man was created on the sixth day of creation. Furthermore, God so ordered that men would work six days in a week:

1. Ex. 20:9 "Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:"
2. Ex. 23:12 "Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed."
3. Ex. 31:15 "Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death."
4. Ex. 34:21 "Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.
5. Ex. 35:2 "Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death."
6. Lev. 23:3 "Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings."
7. Deu. 5:13 "Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:"

In addition, man was to work the fields for six years and let them rest in the seventh year:

1. Ex. 23:10 "And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof: 11 But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard."
2. Lev. 25:3 "Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; 4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard."

The required service of the Hebrew servant was six years:

1. Exo 21:2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
2. Deu 15:12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
3. Deu 15:18 It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.
4. Jer 34:14 At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.

All of the above associates man and his work with the number six.

hen it comes to false worship God illustrates the work of man with three sixes or 666:

Rev. 13:18 "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." Thus the Lord gives to us the identifying number of the multinational beast as being 666 and saying that this is the number of a man. This indicates that the work of this beast is the work of man. Man is by nature depraved and his works are indicated in Gal. 5:19: "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Certainly, this teaches us that the works of unregenerate men are wicked works.

The cruel manifestations of this beastly work are illustrated to us in the book of Daniel. In Daniel chapter 3 we read of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar preparing an image and requiring all to worship that image. This image is described to us in Daniel 3:1 "Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon." Thus, the image was sixty cubits high and six cubits broad and when six musical instruments began to play everyone was required to bow down and worship the image. Notice there is three sixes. The image was sixty cubits by six cubits and there were six musical instruments. All of this indicates that it was man made and man forced worship. Man has been trying to force his man made religion on others all down through the ages.

Another example of an attempt at man made and man forced worship is found in the story of Goliath. Goliath, the Philistine, was six cubits and a span tall. He had an iron spear whose head weighed six hundred shekels. In addition, he had a son who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. Our attention is called to the fact that Goliath's work was the work of man. Goliath defied the armies of Israel and said in 1 Sam. 17:8 "And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me. 9 If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. 10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together." Goliath was attempting to force the Israelites to serve the Philistines and their god.

Additionally, the false worship forced upon people by man is money based and is dependant upon money. We see this by the association of 666 with the raising of money:

1. 1 Kings 10:14 "Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold."
2. 2 Chr. 9:13 "Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold."

The Lord had commanded that the kings of Israel were not to multiply certain things unto themselves: Deu. 17:16 "But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. 17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold." When Solomon had multiplied to himself horses, wives, and money, his heart was turned to build houses of worship to all the false gods that his wives worshipped. Thus, he turned from serving the Lord to serving idols.

The various multinational beasts that are spoken of in the scriptures: Syria, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persian empire, Greece, and Rome have all tried to unite men under one national kingdom and force man made worship upon all man kind. This was what the building of the tower of Babel under the leadership of Nimrod was all about. God destroyed the tower and confused the languages of the people. Man has been striving every since to unite man kind under one government and under one man made religion. God has intervened in every instance on behalf of his people who worship him in Spirit and in truth.

False worship is a man made, man forced and man financed system of worship instead of a God taught, God designed, and Spirit led system of worship. A system of salvation based on the works of man falls into the man made, man forced, and man financed system of worship. A system of salvation based on grace and grace alone falls into the God taught, God designed, and Spirit led system of worship.

Attempts at multinational world rule are just a guise of attempting to force the man made false religion upon God's people. The United Nations has an adjunct known as the world council of churches. We shouldn't be deceived into believing that they are interested in freedom of religion, but rather their interest is to unite all the false man made religious systems in opposition to the one true religion that Christ established.
